Why Choose RK Law PC?

Most New Yorkers don't think about estate planning until something goes wrong — a parent passes, a relative is incapacitated, a will is contested. RK Law PC was built for exactly those moments. Founder Regina Kiperman runs a boutique practice focused entirely on trusts, estates, and elder law — no general practice work, no high-volume churn. The firm has more than three decades of combined experience and an exceptional Yelp and Avvo track record. They handle planning (wills, revocable trusts, healthcare directives), administration (probate, executor representation), and the things you hope you'll never need (will contests, guardianship petitions, accounting disputes). If you want a senior attorney who actually returns your calls, this is the kind of practice that delivers.

FAQ

Common Questions About This Firm

Do I really need a will if I don't have a lot of assets?
Yes. Even modest estates benefit from a will because intestacy (dying without one) hands distribution decisions to New York's default rules — which often don't match what people actually want. A simple will also names a guardian for minor children and an executor, which avoids family conflicts later.
What's the difference between a will and a trust?
A will takes effect at death and goes through probate (a court-supervised process). A revocable living trust takes effect immediately and avoids probate at death — assets transfer privately to the named beneficiaries. Trusts cost more to set up but save time, money, and privacy down the road, especially for estates with real estate or business interests.
How long does NYC probate take?
A simple, uncontested NYC probate typically takes 6–12 months from filing to final distribution. Contested probates (will challenges, accounting disputes, beneficiary fights) can stretch 2–5 years. Surrogate's Court is the venue — Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and Richmond each have their own court.
What does an estate planning package include?
A typical RK Law package includes: Last Will & Testament, Healthcare Proxy, Living Will, Durable Power of Attorney, and (for many clients) a Revocable Living Trust with funding instructions. Customized for tax planning, business interests, second marriages, special needs beneficiaries, etc.
Do you handle Medicaid / nursing home planning?
Yes. Elder law and Medicaid asset protection planning is a core practice area. The earlier you plan (5-year lookback for Medicaid in NY), the more options you have. The firm handles community Medicaid, chronic care Medicaid, and pooled income trusts.
